I was looking at my shrimp tanks after a long hectic day at work, very relaxing lol. Anyhow, I noticed that in one of my tank, the shrimp molts alot. And in the other tank, they don't molt as often or at all (I haven't seen them molt in one tank) Maybe lack of Calcium has to do something with it? All the tanks get fed the same food with rotation of different food. Same temperature.
What is considered to be normal? Too much molting or not enough molting?
Would Calcium present in a tank has to do anything to it? I'm sure there's a few females in there, not yet fully matured but juvi size. Haven't seen a single molting in one of my tank.
They could also be eating the molts, maybe the gH is a bit lower in that tank? Are the substrates, water used, etc, the same in both tanks? And what two types of shrimp are we talking about?
Im bumping this thread cause im experiencing the same problem, usualy i would see them molt after every month but now nothing.... the shrimp shell also seems really soft compare to the way it was before.
the big difference is before i had hard water with ph up to 7.8 and now its softwater of 6.8. Feeding regiment and everything is pretty much the same.
wow... that is quite a PH swing... how long did it take for you to change over
