:iamwithst I read the post about the best recipes for this unit. I have a similar unit, I believe its 1L capicity and wondered what some good recipes were.
The common problem, everyone was saying for the hagen recipe, that you fill the sugar up to the line... I want to know how much sugar that is. If my unit is identical volume this recipe would work for me as well.
5 ounces sugar and 14 ounces water is the Hagen c02 system Equivalent. Most people find that 1/2 teaspoon yeast and 1 teaspoon baking soda works best. Be sure to use a bubble counter and check valve to prevent snot plugs forming on the inside of your c02 reactor, filter(if you diffuse into the intake of the filter), or diffuser(ceramic or ladder).

the air line tubing from the jug to the bottle goes to the bottom of the coke bottle ( which is 1/2 full of water ) then a second airline tube from the bottle to my diffuser which is above the waterline. As the co2 enters the bottle it bubble sup and is seperated and leaves to the diffuser.
I am suggesting using a bubble counter more to capture yeast snot plugs(they look a little like clear gel) from forming in your tank and possibly clogging up bubble release.
For accurate c02 measurement, you should seriously consider getting a drop checker with the proper solution. BlackSunshine, a member on this forum, sells both the drop checker and premixed solution. but I believe his orders are currently on hold. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/swap-n-shop/44423-fs-co2-drop-checkers.html
Otherwise you can use this chart and plug in your PH and KH numbers to get an estimation or approximation of c02 levels but this will not be as accurate as a c02 drop checker. http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_co2chart.htm
i have a question that is not related to this topic.
Does it matter the size of the container in the DIY CO2. ( the mixture also proportional to the size) For example: 1 L recipe compare to 10 L recipe ( 10X yeast and sugar amount) . Will the 10L last longer ?
used 1/2 tsp of yeast bubbling 1b/3-6secs did i kill my yeast?
used hagen recipe no baking soda
