could MTS = High nitrates????
My nitrates are on the high side. Always have been. I do weekly 50% WC's. All fish accounted for. I am anal about picking out organic material.
I have MTS. MGOPS to be exact. I followed Aaron T's step by step to a "T". Could the MTS be the cause of my higher nitrates?

Are these real?

The MGOPS contains ammonium nitrate, but if properly capped and left undisturbed, it should mostly stay in the substrate layer. How did you cover the soil? And have you tested your tap water? It could contain up to 45 ppm of nitrate and still be deemed fit for humans.

![]() One good point, One excellent point! The finer the Cap grain size, the better the seal. Very few people look to the water as the villain.
