petsmart doesnt get their fish from the wild, keeping them under 7ph is a killer.
the water petsmart keep should be close to the tap coming out of ur sink. Im sure petsmart use tap water treat with whatever they use, maybe prime?
7ph is the best for new fish unless ur fish is coming from a 5.5ph or the wild.

you can bring a tube water to petsmart to get it test for free save money buying test kit.

wait...I thought everyone got their cardinals from the wild?
I thought this was a pretty well-known thing. They are more difficult to breed than neons and easier to just wild-catch.

Also, it is enviromentally-sustainable so they shouldn't avoid it for any other reason.

There are some tank bred cards around, but ya 90% are wild caught.
