The current from my filter (Marineland Penguin 200 - hangs on the back) keeps sending my floating Riccia around the tank and behind the filter outlet, where it lodges and gets no light. Does anyone have any ideas how to prevent this, short of gluing it to the side of the tank? Can it be planted?
what i did was take a narrow pop bottle, cut out the center section, and i wedged the center around the outtake and it slows down the current a lot. secondly, i too the neck of the bottle, cut off the cap thread part right under the lip, then i cut out the back of the neck keeping the ring at the top intact. lastly, pop off the strainer on the filter, slip pop bottle neck over it, and pop the strainer back on. this should stop plants getting caught in it
Riccia is a floating plant by nature and will not develop roots to hang on to any surface. However, you can hold them down using nets (hair nets etc) and tying the nets tightly. You would be able to see them florish and extending out from the nets in no time.
