Algae Grower

25 gallon with DW
For the amazonian bio-type I am doing, I would like to include some red, but have no idea what to put in. The light is 2 25w bulbs. The dirftwood touches each end of the tank and it about 9 inches high, the tank is 24x12x20. I already have Anacharis, and would like to put in pygmy chain sword around the driftwood, leave the front area open, but I dont know what to do for the back. I want the back really heavy planted to you cant see the wall behind the tank. Ugly pink molding. Would these plants work?
Amazon Sword Dwarf Sword Melon Swordplant Red Melon Sword Ruffled Amazon Sword Urugay sword Brazilian Penny wort I wont be using all of these, I need to figure out which ones to use and which ones not to and where to put them. Put up some sort of background rather than counting on plants as a wall, looks better and you will have more flexibility for your scape. It is unlikely a 12" deep tank could grow background plants thick enough to make that molding disappear anyway. Just cutting open a black trash bag works okay! A piece of poster board in your choice of color is better yet.
A Compacta Sword would stay in the tank longest, most swords grow larger than the tank. The regular sword is nice with narrower leaves. I love pennywort, would work well in your set up and can be planted along the back of the tank to disguise the back wall. The chain sword is another nice plant. I didn't care for chain sword as I didn't do a good enough job with the nutrients back when, it is quite the nutrient hog. Vals might work out too. I don't remember if twig cats could hang on them or not, been a while. You will need to feed the twig cat in your small tank, they are quite large fish. Neat fish. They love amazon swords to hide in and graze on but won't be able to graze on the smaller leaved plants at all.

Katthy, after thinking about it I think I have finally come up with an idea
Background black, with a Amazon sword in one corner and anacharis and Brazilian penny wort (if I can find some) and if not I could do Alternanthera. The driftwood arches so I could do a path under it with a few tufts of pygmy chain sword by it. I need to make a list of all Amazonian plants >.< So hard to decide!!! How many different types of plant can you have before it looks messy? |
