Natural lava sand

I picked up some black lava sand yesterday and was hoping for some insight on the pros and cons of it. It is natural sand from a beach here in Hawaii and is pretty fine. I'm starting a OEBT shrimp tank and wanted black substrate. Should I use this sand or no?

I don't know if it would work if you use beach sand, unless you want salt. Which I'm assuming you don't.
