Hey Gordon, might want to make a post on our local forum: http://www.selas.us/vBulletin42/forum.php and who knows some of the guys might want you to bring some goodies with you
Personally, I would skip the aquarium. Visit the quarter, take the street car and see St. Charles Ave., take a swamp tour, if you have time, go see a plantation.
Anyway, suggestions will vary depending on what you're interested in. Nightlife partying? Food? More family oriented?
If you're into the bar scene, I would avoid Bourbon Street. Maybe walk down it once just to say you did, but its a huge tourist trap. You're better off going to Frenchman Street, that's where the locals go.
The Aquarium and zoo have already been mentioned.
If you're a foodie, there is no lack of good restaurants in the city. Ask a local and you'll get a good list of favorites.
I'm probably headed down to Bourbon street.
Will be down there Tuesday/Wednesday night and leaving Thursday afternoon.
Saw a number of restaurants I would like to go to.
I was told to go to the green district?
Anything else to see?
More than likely I'll be doing the Aquarium and visiting the casino to try my luck at some blackjack :^p
It went well. I didn't get to see much of New Orleans as I didn't have any additional time to do so. Walked around the arts area/antique district but never got over to the jazz clubs or see the older homes in the west/green.
Food was good, I tried a number of different places but didn't get to eat enough. I remember having some good crabcakes, quail and oysters at the Pellican Club, and would happily go back again.
I visited Harrahs casino and left with more money than I walked inside with. Things went better than expected.
Was a sad thing for me to see so many homeless people on the streets surrounding the streets around bourbon street. I must have seen over 60-70 people out on the street. Normally in New York city it would be older people, but most of them were younger and my age. Why there isn't a better public assistance program for them I have no idea. :^(
I would go back but in better weather. I wouldn't stay near bourbon street. Didn't get to see any sights I would have wished to :^(

Glad it went well. Next time, make some time for yourself to explore.
The homeless you saw are called gutter punks. They may or may not be homeless. Try not to feel to bad for them. Some of the younger "homeless" you see are actually homeless for a living.
I haven't heard of the Pelican club. Next time you come down, let us know. We'll recommend the places where the locals go.
