I finally got my 40 breeder going after waiting for my custom stand to be completed. I am going to try the dry start method for the first time (any tips on DSM will be greatly appreciated!). Ill be trying to keep humidity in the 80-90% range, misting when needed (twice a day minimum).
Update picture (more below):
Equipment list:
-ADA Aquasoil Amazonia
-Hagen Glo 36" 39w x2 T5HO fixture (hung using DIY light hangers)
-36" Finnex Ray II DS
-Rena Xp2
-Hydor 300 watt inline heater
-inline Co2 atomizer
-Custom dual stage Co2 regulator
-Custom stand
-40 breeder
-EI ferts (when the time comes)
Update, I have been getting some pretty good growth especially with the baby tears. I also added another 2 pots of HC. I am still misting 2-3 times daily with humidity around 80-85%. I had one casualty, my Ludwigia repens died, it just melted away for some reason. All the stems are doing well, I will probably continue for at least another week or 2.
So after a month I decided to fill my tank and end the DSM phase, the HC looked well rooted. I am blasting my Co2 right now and dosing EI so no fish right now. Ill see how it goes and add fish when I'm comfortable with it and tone done the Co2. Really looking forward to the stem plants filling in and growing.
I attempted to but I could not get them off, I agree it would look better. Anyone with a Hagen Glo T5 HO fixture here that could chime in on taking off the legs?
With the width of the 40B I noticed my stems where not growing too well, so I decided to look at some LEDs and I added a 36" finnex ray II DS (7000k) to supplement my hagen glo 2x39w and I have been very pleases with the results; the carpet of HC is fully grown in now. Still dosing EI and I added ADA "lights" to help with the ferts and new lighting. First trim of HC will be soon and I am really getting tiered of the "fizz"/cloudy look that the inline atomizer gives, might switch to another diffusion method. Added many new fish too, current stock:
-6 cardinal tetras
-6 Red minor tetras
- 3 otos
- 1 true SAE
-1 golden ribbon pleco
-4 German blue rams
-3 kribensis
- 1 lonely angel (waiting on a new home)
-2 glo light tetras
-2 black tetras
Also currently battling a nasty outbreak of green dust algae, anyone have any tips on this, as all the research I have done basically states no one really has a great understanding of this algae.
All photos were taken on my phone, might see if I can some higher quality shots
Many new changes- ripped out the baby tears as they began to lift after I did an H2O2 treatment, replaced with DHG, changed a few plants around and added many new fish
My current fish list (yes its overstocked right now)
-6 Rummy nose Tetras
-7 Cardinal Tetras
-2 Penguin Tetras
-2 Pink Danios
-2 Boesemani Rainbows
-3 Australian Rainbow
-3 Siamese Algae eaters
-3 Otos
-1 Twig cat fish
-2 Electric Blue Rams
-1 German Blue Ram
- 20 Amano Shrimp
-2 Apistogramma cacatuoides
-2 Kribensis
