I'm looking for input from other Hydor inline heater owners. I have the Hydor ETH In-Line External Heater 300w with 5/8" hoses and I noticed quite a bit of condensation has built up inside the heater. Its visible within the the semi-transparent black housing that encases the heater. Is this normal, I bought it earlier this year.
I own both models and I've never had any condensation like you're experiencing. Something weird is going on. But I live on the other side of the world in a very warm climate. My guess is there's something up with your room temp, or there could even be a hair line crack.
My house is sitting at 19 Celsius or 66-67 Fahrenheit. Aquarium Temperature was around 83. I have never seen this happening or never noticed it at least.
Ive had them heat tanks up to 87ish in 65 degree rooms with no problems. There shouldnt really be a way for that to happen unless its leaking inside. I personally wouldnt use that heater any more, all of that condensation is in with the electronics now...
I agree I find it odd but nothing is actually leaking out of the heater. I have unplugged it and am using another heater as a precaution until its dealt with. I contacted hydor, just waiting on a reply. I only bought it in March of this year so its not even a year old.
I have never seen any condensation in my two ETH heaters. I have taken apart mine for thorough cleaning (I am not telling you to disassemble your heater). It is probable the rubber gasket is not mated well to the glass element tube or to the plastic body.
I second holding it out of use until Hydor fixes the situation.
Ya it could be a few different things, I am thinking it might be a gasket, I'm not going to open it up because I read through the included booklet and it said it has a two year warranty
i have two 300w and one 200w ETH's and have never seen anything like this. i also live in canada my house is at 19 degrees/66 Fahrenheit tanks are kept at a solid 88 degrees. i would check for small cracks im not sure how these heaters are designed on the inside but there could be a crack inside. other than the condensation does the heater seem to be turning on/off properly/consistently?
The heater was working perfectly keeping my temperature completely accurate and operating flawlessly. I have since unplugged it as a precaution. I believe there is a glass tube on the inside
I left the heater for awhile, the condensation actually appears to have almost disappeared.
I contacted Hydor, they want me to ship it to them in California so they can take a look at it and replace/repair it from there. If they deem it not within there warranty standard I will be charged for return shipping. Here's the thing to even get it to them its going to cost me around $30 (international shipping), I can buy a new one with no hassle or risk for $55.
Buy the new one, when/if they send the old one back you can sell the one they sent back to you and recover your shipping and partial expense of new heater that way, or you will at the very least have a second heater.
I agree, I still love this heater and would buy another again. I have a lot of hydor products and they all work great
