Do they make "mini" timers?
My outlets are getting eaten up by my timers. Most take the space of 2-2.5 outlets, depending on the power strip. Don't get me wrong, I love my digital timers with battery backup. I am just looking for one or two that would be smaller, or just designed differently to not hog all my outlets. In the short term I can move on of my power strips and fit the regular ones I need but I wouldn't mind trying a different design, assuming they exist.
I don't really want to get any fancy all in one unit as I have too much going for anything that doesn't have individual timers. The ones that do probably aren't in my budget. Not saying it's a bad solution, I just want to add 1 timer for now and if their is a space saving design, I would love to see how well it works.

You could look at getting a Reef Keeper light system. They have there own 4 outlet power strip and then a box where you can control each of the outlets individually. They are just expensive though.

I can make this work without much, I really just need to move one of my power strips for some extra room. I mainly just thought it would be worth trying something new if they in fact exist. Each timer tends to have some issues at first for me so if these exist, I would like to try one now and replace the rest later. I have never seen one in stores but I thought someone may sell them online and I don't know where to look.

I bought a timer at Walmart that only covers up one outlet on my power strip. I believe it is Brinks brand.

^^^^ this is what came to my mind when I was reading the OP. I've tried a few of them and they work ok. Be careful not to bump them or your light will turn on and off at weird hours.

I have seen more than a few 2 prong but no 3 prongs at my local stores. Should have clarified that. Everything needs to be 3 prong for me.

Yep, that's the only issue with this one. Good luck finding what you need. It's one of those things that you know is out there but you never can string together the right works to find it with a search.

Yup. I am just going to move one of my power strips short term and add another if need be. I have plenty of actual outlets in the room, 4 right behind the stand and another 4 close enough where their would be no visible wires. I just feel like it's a waste to have an 8 prong outlet and I can only use 3 lol. I have enough big timers and probably a power strip but if I don't, I can find a power strip cheaper than the timer, hopefully not too much clutter if I think it through.

Some power strips have an outlet that is separated from the others, leaving space for a timer or transformer. I think the label says something about 'Transformer outlet' and that is just because it is spaced farther from the others.
I have used some power strips with built in timers, but they did not last. I went back to the 'lamp and appliance' timers by Intermatic. These are available in 2-prong and 3-prong style. The 3-prong are called 'heavy duty'. Both sorts are good up to 15 amps. Intermatic timers are available at Ewing Irrigation, if your local hardware store does not carry them. These are heavy duty, enclosed-but outdoor rated. They are used as timers for low voltage lighting, inside the transformer (on the 110 v side of the power). The lamp and appliance timers that are available in most hardware stores is indoor use. In this picture I use the one on the right. http://www.intermatic.com/en/Product...or_Timers.aspx |

I use several of the ones on the right in Diana's picture, too. ;-)
I have seen and owned (past tense) a seven outlet power distribution strip, that cost about $10.00. The outlets were mounted sideways. It was sold for plugging in multiple wall warts. Three Intermatic or Brinks three prong timers could be plugged into it. That's all that could be plugged in as the timers covered the other outlet/sockets. |

I know you've already probably considered this, but I would be careful trying to load up all the plugs on power strips. You could put a major strain on your wiring. I know, I know, I worry about too much, but an 8 plug strip with lights and filters in everyplug worries me. Ya, Ya, thats what breakers are for, but I've seen them fail too.
