I used a Magnum HOT for a diatom once, I think my XP3 is quieter, but its also a different kind of noise. More hum, and less splashing, but quieter overall IMO.

Well i bought a xp3 this weekend. we'll so how she runs. looks like a solid unit with lots of media space. I like how the canister body is clear gray.
I'll let you guys know what i think about the noise level.

I am thinking we will hear good things from you as well.... When you first fire it up it will prolly be a little loud for a bit. Run it for a few, reach down and give it a few wiggles (not hard) and then you should see air come out of the outlet. Then unplug it for a few to let it settle the rest of the air out, then plug it back in and should be good to go.. That is how I do mine, maybe overdone though..

Okay i got the filter up and running! One question tho- when i look at the canister, it looks like the water doesnt fill up all the way to the top? Water line is about 1.5'' below the top cover. Ive tried moving it around still the same. I beleive this is normal?

BTW- the xp3 is not as loud as i thought it would be, but you guys are right, it humms. It sorta sounds like a loud computer fan/ airpump.
