What is this? It's the only thing like it in the tank.

could be bacterial or mold/fungus

it looks like a blob of surface scum. my 5.5 allways gets a build up of scum on the top and when i stick my hands in there or do a WC i got little globs of stuff looking like that all over that place. or you have a perv prankster roomate?

Ha! I had that too (by where the CO2 enters the ladder thing), but since I live with a wife, I ruled out the perv prankster roomate....unless I sleepwalk....
