I am going to order the filstar XP2 filter for my 29 gallon. I have been looking for a canister filter and the great reviews I have read here have convinced me. My questions is whether to order the bio-chem stars or the Ceramic Rings….or neither.

Get the rings. The start work best floated in the tank IMHO.

Well I got my XP2 yesterday and I plan on setting it up tonight. Boy are there a lot of pieces to put together :? For the Filstar people, how do you have the return set up? With just the jet piece (Seems like it will create quite a flow), or do you use the tube with the holes in it (And if so, horizontal or vertical?).

I use the tube with holes setup in the horizontal fashion.Works good for me but I have to turn the flow down alot so it doesn't disturb the surface to much and let out all my co2.I'm using the xp1 on a 20gal so your going to have plenty of power on yours.

I use the spray bar. Right now mine is vertical because the wife hates the look of it when it's horizontal.

My Xp2 is supposed to arrive anyday now and i can hardly wait,i also read alotta good reviews about it.....it sounds like you really have your hands full.I had to pay alott in shipping though ... since im here in the Caribbean, and the total weight came up to 14lbs, i find that hard to beleive but i guess ill see when it gets here.....i went ahead and got the water softner pillow thingee cause i plan on keeping discus in my 65 Gallon tank......and i also got the stars instead of the rings because they said it was 20 times as effective.....but i could be wrong. My tank is 1/4 filled and i already put 8 diffrent plants in it...i paid about a buck US for one....dont know the names but they sure look pretty....working on DIY co2
