Good book

Hi folks,

I have a few of the most common books on planted tanks, but none have much detail on species behavior.

What I like to know is how specific species behave in low, med, high light. How each responds to trimming, how best to trim each species, etc...

Any suggestions?

You already have the only two books that I've picked up so far, so I can't tell you anything that you don't already know. I've got:

• Ecology of Planted Aquarium
• Ecyclopedia of Aquarium Plants

I think that the Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants has some of the info that you are looking for, but it appears that you are looking for more details than what is contained in there.

I'm watching this thread, to see if anyone else offers any useful ideas.....

One of the best books I've read about plants that you may be interested in is :
Aquarium Plants by Christel Kasselmann
It has some of the things you are specifically looking for. If you get a chance you should definitely check this book out.

It's not really what you're asking about here, but I just came across a new book I hadn't ever seen before, and thought I'd mention it. It's called Dynamic Aquaria, and it's all about setting up tanks that mimic natural habitats, like biotopes, and river tanks, and tidal pools, that sort of thing. Anything where there are dynamic conditions, like mangrove habitats with high tide and low tide, those kind of tanks, are what is talked about in this book.

I almost bought it until I saw that it was $85!! That is not a typo. It appeared to be a text book of some kind, but I can't for the life of me imagine what class it's a textbook for. I missed out on some good classes in college, apparently.

Just thought I'd mention it here since this is a thread called "good book."

jgb77, I have a book from Kasselmann titled Planted Aquariums which is very good. I'll look for Aquarium Plants.

Dynamic Aquaria sounds good. Both are expensive You get what you pay for.

Most of the aquascaping text I've seen in books is general and mostly about propogation. Nothing that talks about how specific plants are best pruned, behave with specific types of pruning, etc...

Someday....I hate to just start hacking away to see what happens
