To think that people might be just going around chopping down all these various size trees, just for a swap n shop thread, that would be sad. So yeah, hopefully, there's just plenty of dead and dying branches out there in the wild.
That being said, NOTHING that I've seen has the kinds of twists, zigs, and zags that manzy branches have. Definitely not oak. So I don't fully understand what the OP is talking about.
No, not really, most people actually consider manzanita a weed/pest plant. My dad routinely had to clear trees from our property and burn them to make room for trees like pine and cedar, only for the field he cleared to be full of young manzanita trees again just a year or two later.
People don't seem to realize how prevalent manzanita really is. I've said before, there's probably enough manzanita on our 24 acre property to supply the entire aquarium trade for more than a year, and I'm not kidding.
Trust me, it's no tragedy if somebody cuts down a tree or two
