That looks an awful lot like pine to me, and the texture on the trunk even matches the dead pine stumps we have around here, that wood peckers and other varmints live in. I suppose weathering could have a similar effect on other types of wood, just be careful what livestock you add in with it, if you decide to use it. Pine is no good for fish, great for making turpentine, though.
