When is blackout the best option against algae?
Right now I have a small breakout of BBA, a smaller breakout of BGA, and some thread algae on my HC. Nothing out of control but the tank is under high light and I recently had a rough transition from DIY CO2 to pressurized. Had several days of low CO2 but that is corrected now. Running 25-30ppm CO2 according to drop checker and pH controller. After I got the CO2 where I wanted I have been coming up short on ferts last week or so. I believe this to be the reason for the BBA and BGA and thread expanding in the tank a little bit.
In no way is this out of control, but at what point does a blackout become the best option for a quick fight against the algae? Does the algae actually die after several days in the dark, or does it just go dormant and will grow again if not physically removed? Just wondering if this is my best quick option here or just maintain good balance and let the plants slowly beat it back.
