Darn PetSmart....Help on Boeseman Rainbows!
I just got a BEAUTIFUL pair of Boeseman Rainbow fish from the local petsmart for $10 a pop. The color was incredible. Bright orange tails, bright blue fronts.
I have what I THINK is a stocking issue, and I was unaware that the rainbows are schoolers. I only got 2 and now I dont know if I can handle more... Heavily planted 38 Gallon high tech tank Current inhabitants. 5 bloodfin tetras 4 Otos 2 German Rams 1 big angel 1 Red Tail Shark 1 Flying Fox 1 Sand Gobie (this thing won't die.) 2 Boeseman Rainbows The questions: Would 2 Boeseman Rainbows be happy alone? If not, how many more do I 'need' Can I fit them in the tank with the current inhabitants? |

Rainbows are usually schoolers. To be happiest they need 5+ individuals. I've seen 2-3 done before, but the rainbows didn't seem real happy and were pretty nippy with the other fish.
Your stock rate is a bit high, but it can be done with good filtration and decent water changes done religiously each week.

Eheim 2217 Filter. EI Ferts, 50% water change, religious, sunday (pun intended)
Would this be ok? ( I have a very good LFS that will take my extra fish for store credit. I do not condone killing fish. Even the ones that annoy me )5 Rainbows 3 Otos 1 Red Tail Shark 1 Flying Fox 1 Angel 2 German Rams And what do you mean about poor mix? They seem to all be happy, and fins are all big and beautiful on the veil tail german rams, and the red tail shark, so no nipping on the long finned fish. |
