Algae Grower
|
Has anyone used these sylvania wide spectrum bulbs on your tanks?...The K is 3400 on them. I was wondering if that is too low. I had 4 40W 6500K bulbs on my 55g, but the growth wasn't as strong as I wanted so I bought 2 of these bulbs, now there is algae starting on the glass, but I think it might be because my otto's have a bad case of ich along with my black neons, so they aren't in there anymore...how should I go about controlling the algae without otto's in there since they have been moved into quarintee, right now the tank is empty to make sure the ich dies off, but I will slowly be moving back in the tankmates in a few days?

The increased algae might be from the absence of oto's but algae will readily use light of any spectrum, if plants aren't growing.
The Sylvania Gro-Lux bulbs are my personal favorite. I like to split a mix of the regular and wide spectrums, though. Between the two, you can't beat the availability of photosynthetic useable radiation (PUR). See the Lumens and PAR thread if you really want to know why. Lumens and PAR
