You may want to try fissidens on rocks.
Moss just somewhat hard to get the look as they tend to get long and end up covering the rocks.

I say moss balls would look almost exactly like the moss in the picture but they grow super slow.

Isn't there a nice green type of algae that will cover rocks like the look of those pictures? I'm sure that would be very hard to do though..

you may need a fairly wide tank to get the illusion of the height and lenght. Start low in a front corner and work to high in the back opposite, gradulually slopping it front to back and side to side.

I say go for it oldpunk. I think it will be cool. Not sure what to suggest as far as moss or algae goes though. If you could find an algae it would be different and something not done alot.

put the rocks in a tub of aquarium water. add a little ammonia & micros. Put it in the sun and bingo, GSA & GDA on the rocks. It's an old trick for hillstream loaches.
