Where could I look for WHITE sand?
Hey all,
Do any of you know where I could even begin to look for some coarse pure white sand? The only place I can think to show you what Im looking for is on pages 48-49 and 68-69 of amano's Nature Aquarium World book 1. Thanks to anyone who has any ideas. Talk to you guys later. -David

You have a couple choices.. You can go for the Carib-Sea sands etc but you will probably run into a pretty wild Ph shift as a lot of these contain high ammounts of Calcium. Its also very expensive.
Or, you can do what I did and get some bags of White Silica sand from a construction supply place. Its bone white, heavy and it doesnt cloud at all. I poured it right from the bag into my tank. This stuff was only $10 (CAN) a bag, and it only took 1.2 bags to fill my 135 Gallon tank.

Thanks guys. Its actually going to be used in a bog vivarium for frogs, so pH wont be a factor. I will check out petsmart and see what they have in the way of sea sand, and I will also check the construction supply places.

I'm sure you're already aware that white sand will get dirty pretty fast, but just thought I should mention it just incase.

Thank you Cindy! Cich, yeah, that makes sence. Most of it will be covered with moss/rocks anyway so Im not too worried about that. Thanks though!
