Breeding Bosemani Rainbows
So my husband and I have been breeding Platies and Danios for the last couple years, and we are ready to step up our game!!! With the proceeds from the last batch of red wag platies, we bought some bosemani rainbows. Here is the situation. We just got 2 females and a male and got them set up in our tank. We are in the process of making a few breeding mops, and we have our ten gallon "hatchery tank" all set up. We think we might have a good idea on how to get them to do "the love dance" as it were ;-) but we have NO idea what to look for as far as eggs, or even what the fry look like. Does anyone have a good website or photos they are willing to share? thanks!!
Here is a pic of the new guys. I know the picture is blurry, but fish are HARD to photograph! ![]() The male is the big guy in the front, and our gals are the ones at an angle in the back....and that big orange blob is our nosy platy begging for handouts ;-) |

All 3 looks young to me. My mature males color has very vivid blues and oranges. Their tails are also mostly orange. I have 2 mature females and 1 young female. My mature females look very dark from a far but has subtle blues, greens and orange scales. My youngest female looks kinda like the one the the right of the picture, almost silver though she's coloring up slowly.
So, they might be too young to breed. My youngest female rarely 'flashes' but the rest, males and females, do their flash things very day. |

Oh yeah, sorry. I forgot to mention that we do know they are a little young for breeding. We were told they are about 8 months old so we aren't even going to try until the springtime. We're just going to get all read up so we know what we are doing when they are old enough

Feed them up on a rich diet of black worms, redworms and mozzie lavae and by spring they will be rearing to go. A little direct sunlight first thing of a morning get them spawning well.
