I'd suggest an external sump if possible (drill the bottom of your tank). This makes it much easier to get at things like heaters, pumps, filters.

MAF,

I have some construction progress pictures at the link below.

You might get some idea there or at least ask some more specific questions.

Check out www.blackjungle.com -- they have a great step-by-step tutorial. You can also check out BadMan's paludarium site...not sure what the url is, but if you search for 'badman paludarium' you should come up with a hit.

Good luck.

Full 50/50 (Upper half land, lower half water) Island style
Split 50/50 (Left half land, right half water) or (Back half land, front half water)
Partial 33/66 (Full water with a small land area)
Partial 66/33 (Full land with a small pond area)

less than that... and I imagine it would be considered a terrarium with water, or an aqua-scape with a protrusion and not a paludarium.

if we're going to break it down to that level would wouldn't it be a vivarium with water...well, as long as it had animal life...

terrarium houses only animals.
vivarium houses plants and animals
paludarium combines land and water
