5 Month Update! EBI 7.9g - Zoid's Journal (\/) (,;;,) (\/)

I took the plunge and bought my third tank, this time I will keep mostly shrimps and some new plants species I've not used yet.

This will be a liquid fert tank (c02 system when i scrounge up more money) and I'm trying a new filter this time EHEIM!

DETAILS:
FLUVAL EBI 7.9 g
EHEIM 2213 Canister
FINNEX 12" Fugeray Planted Plus

AQUASCAPE:
Rock wall not used, instead black cling on background
Fluval Shrimp Stratum
White Pool Filter Sand
Malaysian Driftwood

PLANTS:
Eleocharis Acicularis (Dwarf Hairgrass)
Hemianthus Callitrichoides (Dwarf Baby Tears)
Sagittaria Subulata (Dwarf Sagitarria)
Lilaeopsis Mauritana (Micro Sword Narrow Leaf)
Nymphoides Aquatica (Banana Plant)
Anubias Nana
Rotala Wallichii

SHRIMP:
Neocaridina Heteropoda (Ultra Red Cherry Shrimp)
Caridina cf Cantonesis (Crystal Red Shrimp)

FISH:
Not sure which micro rasbora I want.

FERTS/WATER SCHEDULE:
Flourish tabs in stratum (replaced every 6 months)
Flourish every Sunday
Flourish Excel every day but Saturday
Flourish Iron every day but Saturday
PRIME with 25% water change on Saturdays (1st and 3rd Week of month)
PRIME with 50% water change on Saturdays (2nd and 4th Week of month)

More pics to come as I complete building my stand, scape my tank, fill the tank and add the inhabitants.

Some questions I have: Suggestions welcome!

Plants:

One of either Hairgrass or Microsword will go in my other tank. I don't expect it to carpet with my fert plans. But if it does great!
What would be best for this 7.9g tank?
Do either plant stay small or in clumps if on Excel instead of c02?

Fish:
Are there any fish (preferably a school) options for a tank this small (13.7 x 11.8 x 11.8)?
I really like these pygmy cories at my lfs, will they absolutely ruin (dig) my setup?

Just a thought re: your choice of a 2213 . It's a really good filter , I've got 4 of them , but maybe there's too much flow for a 7.9 gal. tank . I recently did a 30P , which is 7.1 gallons , and used a 2211 , and still am throttling it down some .

The eheim 2213 is excellent on the fluval ebi. I run the exact same same setup other than the light. I have the regular fugeray.

I was actually worried the 2213 would be to powerful. If it is, got any tips on hop to slow the flow? When it's setup I'm going to temporarily place my male guppies in there, they are wreaking havoc with the ladies in my 20G. (10 fry have survived to 1.5cm)

I chose it because I saw a lot of EBI owners with it.

You can slow the flow a bit using the double tap on the discharge side .

Still waiting for my eheim filter to arrive, so here is what I whipped together in the EBI.

Stand is complete and braced and tank is setup with black cling bkrnd, pfs and some driftwood.

Not sure on this layout, any help/suggestions? There is 4 pieces of driftwood in here, 2 small and 2 large pieces.

I settled with the driftwood layout above and planted all the plants I listed too.

I also added in some biomax media from my 20g to the stock filter until my 2213 arrives.

Three of my Amazon shrimps and 5 of my ravenous male guppies were also added (these boys created 20+ offspring, some upto to 2cm... They are all in my 4gnow)

Pic time! Sorry for crappy iphone5 quality

The 12" Finnex planted plus arrived it looks great on a EBI: full tank shot.

Hoping to carpet the micro sword here...

Driftwood with anubias nana and a peek of the banana plants. Here I added some willow moss stones that I made. Also this little bugger and those shrimp hiding in the shadows keep moving the stratum onto my white sand ugggghhhhh!

The HC tied to the driftwood is getting approx 65 PAR! I think. Dwarf hairgrass, Dwarf Sag and Wallichi in the back. Frogbit floating aswell.

What do you guys think of my first attempt at this tank? Any tips or warnings I should know about?

The guppies are probably going to stay in here till I can source out a supply of Chilis. Also the RCS won't be added till the tank is better settled in.

nice! I have the same shrimp and strawberries in my 4gal. probably super overstocked but with the amount of plants I have it seems okay.

I like the progress! You should show a full tank pic
