LED+ directly over water

New tank, new to aquariums, bought the LED+ for a 45gal freshwater tank. It's old so no parts and pieces.

My plan was to get some lexan or plexy or something and cut out around the hoses, a handle for easy removal.

Do I need glass under the light? Or can it rest against the aquarium edge directly over the water (where some evaporation will keep it moist)? I.e. does it need air circulation?

In the photo you can see that it is NOT standing on the feet, those are to the side, instead it's directly on the plastic trim.

The reason I want this is to cut down on glare -- with glass under it, and it standing high, the tank viewed from above has a great deal of glare from the reflection of the lights. It's much more pleasant from the above/front as above, but I don't want to damage the light?

Ive left mine laying on an aquarium without the hinges for a few months without any problems. I typically kept that tank's water almost to the rim but i did remove the LED+ every now and again to wipe the water marks. Just a side-note, vegas causes ALOT of evaporation - so you can say it's been put through the test .

Just make sure when doing maintenance to just wipe it down and check but no harm has happened to mine.

Thanks, Vermino. Guess between the two of us the durability test is on, then.
