So the petsmart in Flint township stocks some more interesting fish now. I picked up a Rainbow Goby and saw them with a few more new/unique offerings.

The petsmart at 6 mile and Haggerty just renovated their fish department. They are now stocking new fish that they haven't before in this store. I picked up a Clown Pleco, and a "Hong Kong Pleco" Which is actually a Hill Stream Loach.

Going on 2 weeks now with water testing a 75 Gal That I completely resealed. Hasn't leaked so far. Hopefully I will be able to sell it soon.

I know we have extreme weather and what not in Michigan, but do you think it would be possible to breed/raise fish/inverts outside during the summer? I'm starting to think about trying this and seeing how well it goes. I know I'd have to keep it in the shade, but I'm not sure what would be easy to try and how to go about it.

List of things I would need:
  • at least 2 tanks for growout and breeding
  • a mesh cover to keep out wildlife, while allowing bugs/food in
  • a way to keep water from getting nasty
  • a place to offload the fish by summers end (possible LFS)

Any ideas? I know there is a lot more to add to that list.

(I'm also really tempted to just set up a 10 or 2 and do emmersed setups.)

I'd love to try it, only issue is I'm commuting to school from home and my mom isn't always very supportive of these type of ideas. I'd like to breed halfbeak livebearers of some sort, just because they are unique, and I think I can manage a fish that has 10-12 fry at a time better than egglayers that have 50-100+.

Any ideas for how I could set that up?

Well, moving into a different house with lots of basement space. The 2x 20g highs will be taken down and gotten rid of. Maybe a shrimp rack in the future?

I would just get a 55 gallon and I would put your choice of livebearers in it along with a breeding trio of ancistrus.

Anyone interested in high end plecs should go to fantasticfins their hypan selection is simply amazing. You have to ask for what you want to see because the high end stuff such as the breeding colony of L-46 is locked in the store front to the right of the main place. Can you believe he has a zebra he bought as an adult back in 1992. They have every hypan under the sun just ask the tall man around 6'6. The rest of the employees will deny it exists and won't show you also you should ask him for the tour.

Picked up 4 ornate julies, hoping 2 of them will pair up when they reach full maturity. If that does happen, feel free to contact me because I'm sure I'll have a hard time offloading fry all the time.

I'm contemplating starting up a new tank but I'm not sure what size to go with... Price is a great factor. I'm thinking either a 38, 45, or 75.

I know the 45 is so tall and the 38 is pretty the same footprint but shorter, but the 45 is overall a nicer setup, and cheaper. the stand the comes with the 38 is crap and I'd have to buy another one. If I could find some way to get around scaping/planting issues with the 45 I might go with it. I might need to buy a stool lol

38 gallon from petco is 150 for just the tank and all the stuff that comes with it. Another 100 bucks for the stand. but then I'd have to assemble it.

45 gallon from petsmart is 225 for the tank and the stand already put together.

75 from petsmart is 399 right now for the tank and the stand.

Well, it depends.

The 38+stand equates to roughly $6.58 per gallon
The 45 is roughly $5.00 per gallon
The 75 is roughly $5.32 per gallon

From this standpoint, to me, the 75 seems to be the best choice. Sure the 45 is cheaper per gallon, but you don't seem to be a fan of the footprint and the 75 allows you more stocking options.

This is my opinion anyway.

If value is important why not try used? Craigslist etc...

Yeah honestly a 75 is a bit out of my budget, though. If I'm spending 400 dollars for just the tank setup, that's a bit much for me. Will probably just go with the 45. I can easily slope and or add 3 inches or so on the substrate it'll be a little bit better.

Don't mind the footprint on the 45, I'm just short is all lol So I'll have to find a way to plant the tank more easily and work in it.

I don't buy used tanks. I like them brand new and clean.

Well hello all, OP here is back for another update.
Just bought another 40B at petco dollar per gallon sale.
Hoping it replaces at least 3 smaller tanks, amd allows for some tank shuffling.
Truly wanting to be rid of large aggressive cichlids by the beginning of fall, and settledon into nice calm and quite community setups.

RCS finally bred for me after nearly a year, dozens of babies.
Mts population has skyrocketed, rabbit snails finally reproduced.
