Plants at House of Tropicals

I just visited H.O.T. for the first time in a few years. (I live near Salisbury) It looked like they recently got a shipment of live plants. They had several tanks filled with swords, stem plants, anubias, java ferns, and more. They also had what appeared to be shrink-wrapped live plants on a shelf. Everything looked fresh and healthy.

The livestock was alright. They had a decent selection of fish. A few red cherry shrimp, nerite snails, crabs, and other invertebrates. A few of the tanks however had sick or dead fish, others looked a bit dingy, but overall the store appeared to be much better maintained than on my previous visits.

The tissue cultured plants are new. The rest of the store looks pretty much like it has for the few years I've been going there. The plants have been good quality for a while and now they're even labelled correctly! HOT apparently has a lady (I think her name is Sarah) who is in charge of the plants and planted tanks. I've talked to her a couple times and she knows her stuff.

I just moved to Baltimore from Texas. H.O.T. was one of my first stops. They had a good selection. I'll probably be back this week get a new tank and start up here in B-more. A lot of there stock tanks did have hair algae or BBA. Their display tanks looks fairly clean though. The plant selection looks great for starting up a low tech tank, with a lot of hardy options. They only had a few high light plants, which I'm not too interested in anyways.

They had any fish I asked about, and a lot of things I had never seen in Texas. Specific fish were hard to find though. The tanks are crowded and not labeled the best.

They are definitely focused on selection and not presentation as much. The store is a bit of a maze.

The staff was a mixed bag. A couple people were very friendly and a few were stuck up. They were fairly busy though.

Are there any other good stores in the area?

Have been going there for almost 5 years now! It's a GREAT store!

One of the last true aquarium places in the area.
The rest are gone.

My wife calls it the $50 store, about every 2 weeks 50 bucks.
She is as bad as me when it comes to plant purchases.

Went in there the other week for the first time in a while. Is it just me or have their prices increased a good bit.

IMO best place in the area, (that fish place is a little bit of a hike but that's another good one) even have some spiderwood although it's pretty ridiculously priced.

Lancaster PA? Is it worth the trip?
I might need to make a field trip one day.
