But here's a little progression demonstrating the effectiveness of two Sat+.

2 Months of growth... from initial planting. Before and After!

Man! That's a sweet looking setup!

I agree with going with a brighter light so that you have the option to suspend the light fixture. It definitely looks cleaner and will be easier to do maintenance on.

Guess I'll be hopping on a second Sat +.

Brian, are you using a timer?

A single on each? Or a dual running both? What limitations does the ramp have with the Sat+? I've been emailing Current today and getting conflicting information.

I'm using a single on 1 and a conventional on the 2nd. The one with the single ramps up 1 hour before the 2nd light turns on. Photoperiod with both is 7 hours. Then 1 hour with the 1st light with a ramp down at the end.

Limitations are that the ramp function should be used with a preset light function (i.e. Orange or Full Spectrum), not with custom or dynamic ones.

Edit:
Could get a dual I think, or a single ramp timer on each, or maybe even a splitter to get both to ramp. But I had an extra conventional laying around. Plus, I like running just one light sometimes for "extended" viewing time in a dim function outside of my photoperiod.

Brian's tank was actually my main reason for going with 2 Sat+ fixtures. His tank is incredible. Plus, I like running both lights on the thunderstorm setting

Dual's it is then. I'm going to poke around for a sale and grab a second one. I'll be honest and say I'll be pissed if the new light comes out in the next month or so...

Haha. You were worried about brightness being too much I though? Or are you just wanting the new brighter light so you can suspend it above the tank? I hear the new one is going to be way brighter/intense than the Sat+ fixture. Look at Amazon and Petco. Sat+'s are super cheap there usually.

Right now the stand alone Sat + (9" from base of the fixture to substrate) isn't bright enough full spectrum. I'm more concerned about not bright enough, then too bright. Reason being with these Sat systems I can turn it down if needed, but at this point I can't even turn it up anymore.

Any words on the new fixture? I am really wanting to replace my current lighting... tank is 18" deep not sure the regular sat+ would give me enough par?

I would run 2 Sat+ fixtures/wait on the new light/or go t5HO if you have higher light plants. One definitely won't cut it. I've tried that at 14.5inches and had to get a 2nd Sat+ fixture. I run Co2 gas with ferts also.

Its been a 7 months since the sneak peak. Is there an ETA or is it vaporware?

Some specs or feature list would be useful.

(Copy/paste of a post I made on Dendroboard)
Well it looks like the Ecoxotic e series RGBW's are going to be out around may 26th.

One site has them available for preorder, with some info/graphics...

12" - 18" E-30 Full Spectrum LED $132.95 (This is the base price, and u add the extra money below when you go up to that size (Keep in mind you would have to buy the Dual ramp timer to get sunrise/sunset/moon light with a normal satellite +, so when you factor in that cost, these lights are very comparable in price, but much more light)
18" - 24" E-45 Full Spectrum LED +$38.00
24" - 36" E-60 Full Spectrum LED +$57.00
36" - 48" E-90 Full Spectrum LED +$133.00
48" - 60" E-120 Full Spectrum LED +$180.50
(Kinda pricey but remember you get the ramp timer that allows for automated sunrise/sunset/moonlight instead of manual activation on the + fixture and it has FX too ...Looks like it is basically a freshwater version of the Orbit marine fixture. The "resume" feature is nice, so you can do your storm without having to reset the sunrise/sunset/moonlight schedule.

Here are the stats for the old satellite +. You can see the new light is not quite twice as powerful, looks to be a significant step up though. The 48" might be nice for lighting a rack of 4 vivs, so they all have sunrise/sunset/moonlight and storm FX
