new planted 2g (new pic 4-18)

***photo as of today, just added the shrimps earlier. decided to add a light also

set this small low-tech jar up for 10 blue velvets i have currently with my rcs and cbs in a 29g. i obviously don't want them together to long!

i did make my own sponge filter with some leftover pipe from my son's under gravel filter glued to a rock, drilled some holes, used non-toxic hot glue and assembled it. used an air stone so its really quiet and doesn't cause to much water movement. light is great from these windows, all my plants love that side of the house so i think it should work!

the water is still cloudy so i'll post new pics tomorrow or tues.

rocks are from lake erie and the big green 'blob' is java moss tied onto a piece of shale. also anacharis, mini swords & dwarf baby tears.

Baby tears won't make it in a low tech setup. I've tried many times in different tanks and they end up deteriorating. They need high pressurized co2 even excel won't keep them alive. Of course these are all my opinions and my facts I've gathered from experimenting with them I've lost at least 6 pots

Looking good!
You might want to take the lid of the jar: everything inside it needs air.
Enjoy the hobby, but it does get addictive.

lol i have 6 tanks running total. 3 nano's, one 10g and two 29gallons. it has a sponge filter so the lid is cracked enough.

I have HM, and I just leave it grow at the surface, floating, in my low tech 46g. It will grow out of the water and grows roots beneath, but the leaf growth underneath deteriorates if the top growth is too dense. I guess the co2 is provided by being so close to the surface. I am trying it emersed as well in a little plastic container, it was just 'bunk' I through into the container w/ a little tank water covered with cellophane. It's just a short term experiment thing, but it's growing nicely under a 4w LED e27. Lol, I breathe into the covered container here and there, seems to be working.......
