When I bought my Aqualight the LFS changed the actinic bulbs out for what I thought were 5500K plant bulbs. They actually put in bulbs labeled "8800K Pink".
Anyone heard of these? Are they any good? Thanks for your input. David |

I have seen them advertised at some places on the net. But I also notice that no hardcore plant site seems to either stock them or carry them. Makes ya wonder doesn't it?

They might be what some companies call "beauty lights". They tend towards the pink and white part of the spectrum to enhance colors of fish, but lack so much blue output that their total PAR output is probably pretty lame.
They might be a good bulb to pair up with a blue-heavy light such as a 10,000K reef bulb.

Should a bulb for a planted tank have more red spectrum and not just blue?

Red and blue output should be roughly equivalent. Here's a photopic curve and Action spectrum that represents how sensitive a plant is to various areas of the visible spectrum and which parts are primarily important in active photosynthesis (Action Spectrum).

I ordered the 55w 5300K bulbs fron AHsupply to replace these. They may be fine and I can try them later but for this project I want to be certain.
