Not sure, but you might also try Aquarium World if you're ever in Lafayette. The downside is that they usually pay in store credit, so you'd want to use it then if you aren't normally in the area.

Petco won't buy it from you, but you can relinquish it there.

Petco's official policy is that they cannot turn away an animal (at least not the same ones that they sell). Now the GM there might not want to take it, but most of them will.

I've seen Petsmart turn away someone when they wanted to surrender their oscar or something.

Pet stores have to turn some things away. Most of them don't have room to house a large fish like an oscar.

Actually it's any combination of two things: First the modern corporation being as dishonest as the 1930's Chacago Police dept, they don't want any possibility of liability
which may occure if they purchase anything from other than a certified breeder/dealer should anyone become sick and try to blame them for it.
Second is simply tank space. The people at Petco said to be sure and call first if you would like to "donate" any creature to insure they have space available for it.

Unless their isolation area is packed Petco usually space to house relinquished animals. It is still a good idea to call ahead though.
Also, Petco does not "sell" relinquished animals. The adoption fee that is collected for them goes directly to the Petco Foundation for homeless pets.
