The "I have no idea where this is going" 29 gallon journal

If you just read my title and still want to see my tank, well dang, you might be crazier than me.

I recently sold my little Green Terror (no, not full grown) and wanted to get back into planted community tanks, but the problem is, I have no idea where this tank will go. I do have a few things picked out already though.

1: The Substrate. I'm using Fluval Stratum for plants. I've had good success with this stuff before, and I love the chocolate color. I hope 16.6 lbs are enough for a standard 29 gallon (or 109 liters for the rest of the sane world).

2: The Driftwood it has some nice character. Unfortunately I've never been good at hardscaping, so I may make a whole post just asking for advice on how to place my wood.

3: The Background. I'm sticking with a flat black background. I'm bored with my 3D background and this nasty gray background is....nasty

That's all for now. I'm sure my next post will be about positioning my wood . If no one follows this journal, at least I'll have something to remember!

Default The "I have no idea where this is going" 29 gallon journal

Really not much to update here. I used the flat black krylon fusion to give my tank a better background. The sand is just leftover stuff from another tank, so I figure it'd give this tank a little more substrate, since I'm not entirely sure of 16.6 lbs of stratum will be enough for a 29 gallon.

Other than that, I still have no idea what plants or fish I'm going to add. In another tank I have a small school of Celestial Pearl Danios and probably 5-10 Cherry Shrimp. I could put those in this tank, and add stock from there. But I also really love the idea of a community tank with lots of fish (with a "centerpiece" fish being a male Krib) and lots of cleaner fish like Otos and Pygmy Cories with a school of some type of tetra.

What do you guys think? A Krib centered tank or a shrimp tank? I think once I choose fish, I'll have an easier time with plants thanks for any replies!

Not much to update here, but I've planned my tank out already here's my plan!

As for fish, I'd like to eventually end up with 30+ Cherry Shrimp, 15 Celestial Pearl Danios, and 10 Otos. Any thoughts/opinions?

Ya? Do you think it's the right amount? Could I possibly do even more of the danios and/or shrimp? Thank you!

Finally got my plants in! The Wendtii Crypts look kind of crappy, and the Glosso is planted very messily, but I have a feeling it'll grow in nicely other plants in the tank include Pogostemon Erectus, Blood Stargrass, and Giant Hairgrass.

The tank is 1 week old today! I put two cycled filters on the tank, and waited for safe levels. Then I put my shrimp and fish in. The CPDs seem to be less shy in this bigger tank, and I had a few shrimp holding clutches of eggs when I put them in the tank

Oh! And that piece of Anubias nana petite, has been in so many tanks the past 4 years, I keep forgetting about it. It has algae on some leaves, but I'm not sure if a bleach dip would work to kill that algae. What do you guys think?
