My 55 gallon long is being held up by 4 cinder blocks and a large piece of plywood. Works fine.

As far as looks are concerned once you get it finished it would be easy to put some kind of fabric or curtain around the stand to hide the cinder blocks and wood. That is what I will be doing with mine even though I built it out of all wood. I'm not much of a carpenter and trust me, it needs to be hidden.

If you don't liek teh looks of it when you are dome, just throw a sheet over it, and then you can hide all of your stuff underneath as well.

It will work fine. I had a friend with an entire 125 gal reef tank (including a couple hundred pounds of liverock) on a stand just like that. Just add an extra support in the middle with cinder blocks and you should be fine. To cover it up, slap some velcro strips along the top and put a curtain of fabric along the front. This covers everything under the tank adn you can easily lift it up and/or completely remove it if need be.

In the Marfch 2004 issue of TFH there is an article on John Mangan and there is a photo of Mr. Mangan in his fish room. He has what looks like maybe 10 - 20 tanks set up on shelves made like the one you have a design for. His are even stacked TWO and THREE HIGH. Alson one other thing you might want to consider is putting a piece of 1/2 inch styrofoam underath the tank It will help to even out some of the imperfections in the wood you choose to put the tank on. Good Luck and happy building
