Well in the past months plants have become particularly more of a challenge to grow for me. When i first began with watersprite it quickly took over my 10g tank. But now any plant i get does bad or just hangs in. I have no clue why because i havent changed anything in my maintence, ect. So i blame my water. My parameters are :
NH3 - 0 ppm N02 - 0 ppm N03 - 0 ppm from tap, up to 10 ppm after a week in most of my tanks. KH - 232 ppm GH - same vacinity as KH Now there are other levels of metals and things that i dont know and would be hard to test. So for algae let me show and explain the kinds i have now. In my 10g planted ive recently converted the gravel to shultz or 'profile'. And since that ive got increased bluegreen algae. I dont know if its the gravel putting more nutrients in the water column or what. Also in this tank there is spot algae, brown algae, and some fuzzy algae. A few pictures for a visulization : http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g1_dwoodalgae.jpg - shows this brownish fuzzy algae on the driftwood and the bga on gravel http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g1_jfern.jpg - shows some brownish algae covering older java fern leaves http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g1_crypt.jpg - also shows old leaves covered in some algae http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g1_wsprite.jpg - shows my water sprite with some bga on it and shows how pale the watersprite has become Alright now in another 10 gallon tank ive just 1 major algae that is bothersome : http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g2.jpg - fulltank shot that shows brown algae on front panel and a little of the algae covered java moss http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/10g2_jmoss.jpg - shows the thick brown algae that has been covering my java moss in the last month and i cant rid it of it even with weekly waterchanges Alright and now my 45g. This is my tank that really is my main focus of attention. I also havent showed it publically yet, i anticipated to do so when i could show flourishing and thriving plants, but the story is opposite right now. Everything has quickly deteriated in this past week with this tank. http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/45g.jpg - fulltank shot, shows how the cabomba is doing vey poorly as the bottoms have decayed. Algae on every glass panel, algae growing on the gravel, hair algae on the plants, ect http://www.freepgs.com/depthc/45g_hairalgae.jpg - shows hair algae that has developed in this tank. this algae first started in a 10g right next to it and now seems to be in this tank. and man does this stuff smell when you remove it Well thats all the pictures i have to show you. I have 3 other tanks but they arnt in bad condition right now so they arent worthy of mention. But these tanks are. They all have a pretty low nitrate last i checked since i just finished my fishless cycle in the 45. So any recommendations to combat this algae? Its about that time of the week for waterchanges but thats only a temporary fix. So what may be my excessive nutrient? None of these tanks recieve ferts or c02 just light. And what could be causing my watersprite to become a pale color? Ive so many question but i know they all cant be answered but i just need a few tips on combating algae and reviving my plants so any input is greatly welcome. Thank you all for reading my algae rant. .dc

Expect to get some brown algae at first, but it will soon go away. |
