Question

Lighting for a 4 gallon cube, fluval cff, DB solar flare, DIY?

I am planning to buy or make (figuring out glass pricing still) a 10"x10"x10" cube and want to grow medium light plants but not use Co2.
SO I'd like to achieve medium light, either with a DIY cfl fixture or a fairly priced pre-made light (does not have to be cfl) that workes for freshwater plant growth. I've been looking at Fluval Mini Power Compact Lamp - 13W and Deep Blue Solarflare Micro LED 6700k Light, but not sure if either would be enough/too much light for "medium" on a 10" deep cube (would be 8" with substrate in).
I'm leaning towards DIY for $ but not sure where to start. The par measuemnets thread that a lot of people swear by on this forum doesn't give great details for nano tanks or cfl. I reemmber finding a thread or wesite where someone did a nano tank (i think 7 inches tall) cfl par exeperiment with differnt wattage bublbs and the difernt of culb being vertical or horizontal, but I can't find it now

I'd greatly appreciate hearing people's set ups for lighting planted nano tanks; specially brand of light (if diy, what brand bulb(s)?), height from light to substrate, low/medium/high light plants, co2 or no?

I think the info you are looking for is here: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...t=85667&page=2

post 21. For an easy solution you could probably go to Walmart and find a fixture.

Pick up a 6700k cfl bulb. Those fixtures are great because you can raise or lower the light really easily to get the level you need for no CO2 and no algae.
