Noob's progression (56K warning)

I think I just came upon the best forum for planted tanks. I was simply blown away by medicineman's 700G masterpiece awhile back. I've been tinkering about with a little something of my own. My current tank started about 4 months ago, and has since evolved a lot. I can't seem to be happy with my scapes. I'm trying very hard not to tinker with it so much nowadays.

Tank specs: 24" x 8" x 10"
Filtration: Resun Cyclone CY-20 External Filter
Lighting: 1 x 36W PL
CO2: DIY with Ista mini ceramic diffuser
Substrate: Laterite
Sand: Holland sand & white silica
Fert: 0.5ml Seachem Flourish every 3 days
Water parameters: only tested for pH (6.5) and kH (4)

Initial set-up

2nd scape: added a piece of twig

Added additional plants and changed the scape again. Removed the tetras.

Btw, this is a photo of my quarantine 2 footer. Its where I dump all my other plants and fishes. I've collected lots of Vallisneria from the local lake. It only has a submersible filter connected no CO2, lighting comes from a 11W PL-L. WC changes every 2 weeks. Top-ups every other day.
