6ft planted - comments pls


hi folks

this is a low maintenance non-co2 planted setup done on 24th aug 2007
going through the usual crypt meltdown at the moment.
also considering adding co2 via pressurised cylinder with solenoid.... needed for such a setup?

6x2x2.5ft ht with 4x1.5x1.5ft sump
eheim 1262 return pump
lights using 3x80W T5 HO (8 hrs)
36W coralife UV sterilizer
seachem onyx sand
ammonia: near 0
no3: 10ppm
po4: 1ppm
pH: 7.90
KH: 3 (kit might not be accurate for this)
temp: 28-29C

Nice beginning. Are you sure about the pH? Seems real high if your kH measurement is correct.

Hard to say whether you "need" CO2 or not. But if you are considering it, go for it! Makes a big difference for plant health.

Think those cardinals will be safe in there? Lot of large, hungry friends

I agree. Especially the arowana. I would skip it if I were you. I'm not familiar with Kribs, but I have heard some redline torpedo barbs to get aggressive. The other's should be fine.

the pH is definitely right. using a freshly calibrated pH monitor as well as a handheld eco pH pen.
as for the KH, may be out of whack as the kit is kind of old

if i add co2, no probs with regards to inconsistant co2 levels?
i mean for a high tech setup, inconsistant co2 levels usually lead to BBA.

they should be fine cos the aro has been with me since it was 4inch and kept in a similar community in my previous tank.
no interest with small fishes at the moment. only eats superworms and grey prawns

Could you post a pic of the arowana? I would love to see it.. I have a Jardini in my 180 that is about the same size
