Excuse me sir, your MTS is showing..

And so it begins again Living room approved Spec V!

All started from a simple You Tube video - showed my wife some dwarf puffers - "they are so cute and funny, can we have one?" Not in the community tank, buuuuuuuttttt - if we had a second tank we could feed him all those snails from the main tank! "Ok - but like the first tank, keep it neat and clean and looking like furniture that belongs in the living room" Yes ma'am, you got it!

Showed her a bunch of nanos - thought she would go for the Ehiem Aquastyle but she liked the Spec V the best - and it fits on the shelf perfect (Very solidly built - she gets a new piece of furniture, I get a new tank to put on it!)

The "base" is a cut from a 10" select pine board, stained and rattle-can satin spar urethane with little felt stick on feet.

Nice. When we were dating, my now wife had a little tank we setup together. She didn't do anything nor did she care but a lot of people would like it so she was happy. Somehow, I convinced here to have both a 5.5 and a 20 long at the last place she had before we moved in. Honestly, that was more gallons of water than we have now.

My wife is the same way, it has to look nice and maintained. I think she may want a nano for her room, and she would like a little cube in the kitchen after we redo it. Kind of strange as I would prefer to not take on anything new at this point, MTS almost burnt me out of the hobby.

Always nice when your significant other shows interest in a hobby, even if it's just a little bit. I actually would hate if my wife setup her own tank, haha, just like I would hate if she started working on cars.

I agree, love that she is interested and likes watching the fish, would hate to be questioned on my choice of plants and filter media!

It was my S/O's lack of interest in what was her fish tank that got me into this mess. I felt sorry for the fish and can't willfully do nothing while things suffer. Dying fish lead to research. Research lead to water testing. Water testing lead to finding high nitrates. High nitrates lead to plants. Plants lead to DIY CO2. DIY CO2 lead to more plants. More plants lead to a bigger tank. A bigger tank lead to pressurized CO2. Pressurized CO2 lead to more plants. More plants lead to a higher Bioload. You get the idea. Where does it end?!?

I had the same experience. I thought having a goldfish in a two gallon bowl would be cute. Now I'm into 120 gallons. It never ends.......a bottomless pit of a hobby. It's like the credit card commercial.....

Fish: $5
Tank, light, filters, co2, plants: $1000
Having everything live beyond 30 days: priceless.
