Shrimp behavior question

So my shrimp tank is really doing well. Have at least two different ages of babies growing out already, tons of saddled females...

This morning a big saddled female was swimming around the tank with what I'm assuming was a male (smaller, no saddle, but adult) clinging to her back. Is this how egg fertilization happens? Was that berrying in the making or something else?

heh Perhaps trying to berry an unwilling fem. Males have to be belly to belly to transfer the sperm sack.

Juvenile males often know they are supposed to do SOMETHING but not sure what or how....and they first attempt it by grabbing onto a females back like she's a dang bucking bull or something. LOL. They figure it out eventually! But like SS said, it's belly to belly contact where the magic happens. heehee

I thought it seemed like it wouldn't be very effective that way, but was all I could think of. Poor male, and she was zipping around like she was annoyed. :P
