Could it be BGA floating in a cloud on top of my tank? It's slimy, scummy and a bit difficult to remove. I have no other visibly cloudiness anywhere else, though the browm algea is thriving recently.

I hesitate to dose w/antibiotics if my special cloud is not BGA>

The stuff floating on the surface is protein scum. A little surface agitation will help get rid of it, or, some surface skimming fish, like swordtail or black molly. Try skimming some of it off with a python to give it a head start.

I use a fine meshed net to clean the surface from algae/surface scum. Works great, just got to be careful not to accidently catch any small fish
