Empire Gudgeon - Anyone see these in US?

Anyone see these guys (Empire Gudgeon, Hypseleotris compressa) in the states? I searched online to only find mention of them overseas.

I've seen them, through rarely. They're on my list to get the next time I see them.

I saw one in a display tank at That Pet Place in Lancaster PA but they didn't have any for sale.

i had a pair a couple months ago. and i just saw them listed on aquabid (i think i visit a good 10 to 15 sites a day looking for hillstream loaches.) i got mine from wetspot.

ime unless they are breeding they generally look brown and kinda bland. their eyes are just crazy cool though.

Agreed on the bland. Go for peacock gudgeons if you want a gudgeon that is gorgeous all the time. I have a new breeding pair that just spawned. I'm doubtful I'll get any offspring this time since I wasn't planning for this, but in the future I may have some for sale.

Thanks everyone... didn't know they were bland when they're not mating. That's a deal breaker for me.

I have 2 males, and agree on the bland when not breeding. They were a lot more colored up in the store and I bought them on an impulse. And of course, now can't find a female to save my life. They're still a fun fish, they just get lost in my tank (they're in a 60 gallon with angels and diamond tetras - and they're middle dwellers unlike my peacocks that stayed lower in the tank).

My LFS has these in stock almost all the time. as others have said, they are not as pretty when not in breeding mood. I do find them nice looking when not in breeding mood as well though.

I think I need to disagree, slightly, on the given fact.

I got two of these fish and put them in a slightly brackish tank. Both turned out to be males.

A pic of them aclimating to brackish (they were being sold in a freshwater tank) :

Living in the brackish water tank (specs) they have established areas they stay at, and regularly show off at each other - even kinda put up a cute little fight - at the border, or "no males zone", looking pretty nice:

I actually think it's kinda cool that they are brownish and bland at times and very colourful at others...

It's been awhile, but at one point in time I did see them for sale at That Pet Place. I think they were around $15 each (though i don't think that they have any right now). And I agree with what everyone said about them being a bit bland, though admittedly I've only seen them in a pet store tank no more than 2 or 3 times.
