Looking for some info...

I just got my first teaching job in Lincolnton, NC. Which means I am relocating there from Kalamazoo, MI. Here are somethings I would like to know.

What is the water like in the area? ph, gh and such. The water here in MI is liquid rock. I am wondering how much my fish keeping might change due to the water difference.

Secondly, where are the good fish/plant stores?? Where do I get my hands on CO2 refills?

The water in the Piedmont area of NC is soft; between 0 and 2 dGH and dKH. There's usually low NO3 and PO4, but not always. Some areas use chlorine and some areas use chloramine. I don't know what Lincolnton uses. You should like the area. You'll be near Lake Norman. The mountains and the coast are only a few hours away.

i live in chapel hill, is the water there soft as well? i've never tested for softness, i want some blue rams and they like soft water, so i'd feel better if it were soft

where exactly is lincolnton? there is a good store in durham called triangle tropical fish, i go there for special stuff, otherwise i go to petsmart or petco

Your LFS can test your water for you. Chapel Hill has soft water. I live 25 miles away.

Do you know about the Blue Ridge Parkway? It was built in the '30's. Its a winding road through the mountains of NC. It starts near Cherokee (Gambling!) and generally heads northeast. On the Va side it changes names to the Skyline Drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive are a really pretty drive. There's many scenic stops along the way. No trucks. No stoplights. 45 mph speed limit. Tunnels. Wildlife. It's awesome riding it on a motorcycle. A convertible is nice or a sports car too. In the fall when the leaves are turning colors, awesome!

The center of the state has Wake Forest, UNC-CH, NCSU and Duke. ACC Basketball. Tobacco Road.

Then on the other end of the state are what's called The Outer Banks. Cape Hatteras, Lighthouses, Kill Devil Hills, Wright Bros., Nags Head, Ferry Boat rides, Fishing, Fresh Seafood, Wild Horses, and more.

The mountains are spectacular!

You should also check out Wrightesville Beach near UNC-W. It's an excellent beach. Stay at "The Blockade Runner" for a good view and excellent dining.
