4 dkh with tank water???

So I have read that you are not supposed to mix the 4 dkh solution with tank water. If that is the case what DO you mix it with? Or do you use 100% 4 dkh solution?

To make 4dKH water you start with pure water such as distilled or RO.
Once you have made the 4dKH water you do not mix it with anything, just add some pH reagent that will turn various shades from blue to green to yellow.

To expand on this, the pH reagent you are looking for is bromothymol blue (the API regular range pH kit is a bromothymol blue solution (2%, if my memory serves me correctly)).
