blue neon moonlight?

i hooked a 2 inch blueneon light under my hood to simulate moonlight (mostly so i could see in tank at night). its not very bright you have 2 turn all lights off in room to see anything. would his hurt my plants? it doesnt seem to bother the fish any. it is a 12 volt light supposed to go in a car. opinions?

Nope, I don't think this would hurt your plants at all. The other day I was looking at them too... but I want to see if I get a white one instead of the blue one. Did you just hook it up to a 12V transformer?

I honestly don't know if it does anything to the plants.... I have two cold-cathode blue lites over my tank. They are the type used for computer mods. They are pretty bright, and makes enjoying the fish in a dark room very enjoyable. I just got a 12vdc wall transformer to power them.

I have the CSL Moonlites on all my tanks. My 55 gal reef tank has them built in and there are 4 one watt moonlights. My other tanks have the single separate CSL moonlite ($23). The fish, plants and corals do not react to the moonlights at all. They are great to see what goes on at night and it helps reduce stress on the fish (fish can get stressed in total darkness). Oh, and they look cool too.

I suggest you get a white moonlight instead of the blue.

On the same note...

I happened to find a 6 foot segment of blue rope lite on sale at Menard's for 3.50... They had a variety of colors, but I opted for good ol blue. Comes with clips that installed very easily on the hood of my 20g tall... I modified the power suppy a bit to include a photo sensor. Main lights come on, moon switches off. Main off, Moon on. The sensor was about a dollar cheaper then yet another timer... Looks pretty sweet. The room does need to be dark to truely enjoy the pseudo-moon.

Can't you just use a NO fixture and install a Moonlite bulb?
