Nice looking fish.

How do the rams get along with the other fish? I was considering getting a ram or 2 for my community 20L.

The rams get along fine. They are a little nippy when the others get to close to where the fry are st, but other than that nothing bad. They are totally peaceful when fry are not involved

I really want to try some rams. Yours look great! How to they act around the other fish during feeding time?

They aren't really aggressive at feeding. I don't have any fish in the tank that really compete with the rams during feeding but if I had cardinals or rummy nose tetras I think the rams may be out competed. But then again they like to feed off the aquarium substrate so as long as you make sure food hits the bottom I am sure they will get their share

cool!! I want rams so bad, but the last time I got three they all died in 6 weeks. I think my water conditions arent ideal. I may try again sometime.

Well the rams seem to like moving the wrigglers often lol. In the morning they were at the base of the beggest rock in my tank. Now they are near the top of it. Fish aside though. I am having major issues with hair algae right now Pretty much most of the staurogyne has melted away under the algae towards the front of the tank. I want to use peroxide and excel dosing to kill it off because only the plants that were originally effected are dying. The algae isn't spreading to the healthy plants. Problem is, I don't want to dose the tank because of the fry. I don't know how wrigglers will take being dosed... So, I am waiting for the parents to either eat the fry like they did last time (morbid but...) or for the fry to become free swimming and hoping for the best.

On another note, I am waiting to replace this tank with another identical tank. I didn't write about it here but the tank has a pretty nasty chip in the top left corner, so I ordered a replacement tank for peace of mind. I was waiting for the plants I have to get settled in before moving everything over, but now I am not sure because of the fry. I guess once they are free swimming I could suction them into the new tank and hope the parents dont get stressed and decided on infaticide. Long story short, I am waiting for the fry to go free swimming.

I tried with rams three times in the past and they died all three times within 4 weeks. No spawning activity either. This is my first success, fingers crossed. It is also the first time I got rams from a member called yunite. He sells rams in the sns. Coincidence? maybe but maybe not. Great guy though!

Ya I saw those and I PMed him and he gave me some great advice. Im gonna try to get my tank in order first and align some of the water parameters he recommended. Once I can sustain that I will give them a shot maybe. Ill be interested to see how yours do.

I also suspect inferior stock from my LFS being an issue as well.

Yunite was really good about answering all my questions too. Definitely will keep the updates coming regarding the tank and rams

Well it looks like the wrigglers didn't make it through the night But still this is the furthest the parents have gotten without eating them so it's progress. Hopefully I get another spawn in the next weeks

I am not sure what got the eggs. It may have been the mom I think because the male was still defending the spot where the eggs used to be but the female wasn't. That said I am not losing hope yet. This was the furthest by far that they have gotten. Last time they laid eggs they didn't even get to wrigglers and this this time they had them there for 4 days.

Oh and this was their second spawn so I think they are still learning

I think that's the gist of it lol. The male suspects I think. He has been chasing the female around a bit, almost like he's saying " how could you"..

Anyways, I got my first camera flash unit today and the first shot is down below. Really excited to learn to shoot with flash units
