Just wanted to update my 220 and show off the new scaping. I chose to go with the 4 types of fern, windelov, undulata, phillipine, and narrow leaf. The reason is this is low tech and ferns are the only lower light plant that grows well in this tank without getting covered in BBA and diatom algea. Let em know what you all think

it's beautiful, nice driftwood selection and placement. the middle seems empty and need some ground cover, but the only plant i can think ot right now that suit the low light setup is anubias. I saw one tank with lots of anubias as ground cover and it's so beautiful. what fish do you have there?

I think driftwoods covered with ferns are really beautiful. Nice tank can't wait till the frens grow more. IKUZO idea with anubias is good may be plant them on the small rock and arrange them around the base of driftwoods or use rock covered with moss. BTW, I like the color of your Arowana.

ikuzo, that looks like marsilea as the ground cover.....it may work in a lower light setup, although it may get leggy and grow multi-lobed leaves....

that's marsilea? isn't marsilea got brighter green color than those?

Nice tank. I also wanted to add some fern for my tank. It grows so slow though. What do you use to tie them to the driftwood? I use rubberband they always come off.

marsilea gets pretty dark green in color....

but I do agree that might add to the scape using it as a ground cover

thanks for the suggestions everyone. The problem with a ground cover in this tank is when a 20" arowana goes to the bottom and grab a peice of frozen krill he takes whatever he grabs with him

HE would have it all pulled up in a matter of weeks. Also I use to have anubias in this aquarium but with no co2 and my shoplight setup It gets covered in BBA really bad. Also there is a myth that diatom algea is usually only seen in new setups but I get it really bad and this tank is 3 years old.

Perhaps you have a lot of silicates in your water. That is rumored to spur diatoms.

Java fern almost does nothing in a tank without any CO2. Add Co2, they will grow very fast. They also like a lot of flow.

I'm pretty sure silacates are my problem. I also think my lighting doesn't help. This is the only aquarium I have this problem in. I have pretty good luck with java ferns in this tank. they grow really well and I get lots of plantlets off of them at lower light levels.
