What the hell is this? Algae, plant, something else?

Newish tank, cycled with 0/0/10 parameters. Noticed this stuff mostly on my rotala walichii. It's pretty tough to the touch, almost like really hard spiderweb. Seems to be growing slowly. The little "nodes" seem to be growing lateral sprouts. Could this be how rotala walichii propagates or repairs?

Thanks for the help.

That's what it is. I would remove it or it can become a pest.

Yep. That's exactly what it is.

Remove it whenever you see it. It can quickly become a tangled mess and take over if kept unchecked.

Careful when removing and untangling it from plants. Even the smallest little piece left behind will regenerate and continue to grow.

Very annoying thing to deal with. I got plants from plantedaquariumcentral a few months ago and had a ton of this stuff all over my Najanshen, took almost 3 hours to clean it up but luckily have only spotted one strand of it since then. Quarantine helped to lower the infestation for sure.

Thanks everyone! So is it an algae or more like an aquatic weed?

It's a plant not algae. It's a carnivorous bladderwort

It's not what they're calling cladophora in this link: http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_...ater_algae.php
? I just got my 1st shipment of plants ever last night & spent 4 hours cleaning this stuff out of my Rotalas. It was definitely the same stuff you show in your pics.
