DIY drop checker question

I am a glassblower by profession and am going to make myself some drop checkers. I was wondering if Bromothymol blue is the kind of thing I can pick up locally or will need to order? What kind of store should I be looking for if I can find it locally? Thanks

It's the same thing that comes in a low range pH test kit. You're going to also need a standard KH solution as well, most people use 4dKH.

If you want to buy bromothymol blue, most lab suppliers (Sigma, JD Baker, etc) will carry it, but I am not certain whether they sell to individuals (I work in a lab...).

You will also need some sodium hydroxide (if I recall correctly) to work up the bromothymol blue solution (I believe you can use ethanol as an alternative).

Of course, if you are not aiming to make litres of the stuff, then as mentioned, the API low range pH test kit will do just fine.
