Red ludwigia(Ludwigia repens),american val/eel grass(Vallisneria americana), Anacharis(elodea/egeria densa), and yes, dwarf hairgrass(Eleochars acicularis).
they are all very common pond oxygenators, except the hairgrass is common on earthen bottom ponds as an edge plant.

Would I need to do something before I add them to my main tank? I heard that you're supposed to soak them in Jungle Clear or something. Thanks.

Jungle clear is a company that makes a few different medicative items, i beleive tey make the bag buddies, and the med. fizz tabs.
i think you would be best off doing an H2o2 or bleach dip if you wanted to get rid of any pssible threats. i think it's 20 parts water to 1 part bleach/h2o2. but if they already in your tank, it would be a waste of time.

Theyre not in my main tank. Theyre in a 1.7g hex I am using to hold em-which leads me to my next question. I have a spiral 9w compact flourescent bulb with a reflector. How you think these guys will fair? Im fairly certain the the anacharis and maybe the vals will do OK, but what about repens and hairgrass? I could always run out and get a 13w or something.
I might do a bleach dip because they have some nasty algae on em. |

hairgrass wouldnt do well under that, the val may be alright, the anacharis will flourish, the repens, IDK.

Yea, i think the 13 would work, i have a 15 on a slightly less than 1g nano, but it has very high light plants.
my hairgrass in that tank is spreading...fast. i think 13w would keep it alive, and maybe growing, just make sure to get 65-6700k, i think that makes a difference in hairgrass.

OOoh, one more thing, i would change the gravel, or pot the Hairgrass, i've found it likes smaller gravel, sand is great.
but the val and such SHOULD be ok, i'm not positive on this though.

Ok, great. I can see how the hairgrass would have a hard time rooting. I might switch it out for some sand. Im dosing traces in there so hopefully repens keeps some of its reds.

Do you have any critters?
if you want it to keep it's reds, limit the nitrogen uptake(IE: very small bioload) if you are on a budget, home depot has pool filter sand in 50# bags for like 7$, you'd have all the sand ya need.
